Carmelina Alikhan
My mother brought light to every room, with her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh, her sparkling eyes and mischievous glint in her eye. Caring for her for the last 10 years of her life was an honour. As she journeyed through vascular dementia, her traits were still there, but we had to work harder to retrieve them through understanding what she needed to be happy. I learnt a great deal about my mum, about me and about the challenges and tribulations of living with someone with dementia.
